Background history

Hi, my name is Rosemary Palmer and I was born in what is now Zimbabwe, then Rhodesia in 1955. My parents were farmers so I grew up the best way possible except for having to go to boarding school as we lived a good 70 miles from the nearest city -Harare ( then it was called
Salisbury). For my first school year I did 'school -on -the- air 'at home with my mum. This was correspondence school with the radio as a link to 'proper' teachers on a daily basis. I'm sure most people associate this with Australia but we did it too, and still do. I had to leave home from my 2nd kindertgarten year ( grade 2 I think it is now). Again it was only on hindsight that I wondered hy I had not at least done 2 years at home as most kids did and asked my Mum years later. It was only because she was pregnant and could not cope with school as well. I lived in town for that year with my paternal grandparents and went to school by bus daily. My first memories of 'proper school' was the very first day when the girl sitting next to me wet herself and it splashed onto my legs!!! UGH!! I then missed my bus connection and only realised it when the bus went sailing past our road. I quickly got off at the next stop and started walking back to my grand parents place. Dont forget I was a 7 year old farm girl and towns were a bit of a scary place then!! My gran came and found me so it wasnt so bad really.
See you again.
